Lascia o raddoppia?

Raddoppio!

Chiaro no???

filato: Drops Flora (fingering, 50g x 210m), 2 gomitoli in colori contrastanti, nel mio caso tinti a mano;
ferri: circolari da 40cm, misura 3.5mm o quanto necessario alla tensione corretta;

Buon divertimento!!!

"Double knitting" is a knitting technique for working at the same time front and back of a scarf, a cowl, a hat, etc.
It may seem bold and challenging, indeed it is funny and, once understood the logic, also quite intuitive.
As usual on the "tube" you'll find all the human knowledge and therefore also the "double knitting".
In other words you put on your needle, alternately, both stitches from front and back; and if you want to get stockinette on both sides, you have to knit on the front and purl on the back, taking care (and here is the "core" technique) to bring both threads back and front each time. Clear, isn't it???
You can watch the video (linked up there in this page) or make you searching on internet.
Nevertheless, there are lots of casting on techniques, for instance I prefer a knitted casting on (alternating colors, of course, as in photo).
Note: if you work in the round there's no need to knit each first stitch of row with 2 threads together (as shown in that video); that is to avoid opening the work on the sides.
Note (bis!): it is enormously simpler and faster to hold the thread for knitting with the right hand and the thread for purling with the left hand. Enormously.

Good. All this to introduce a small project: a double-sided reversible cowl "DoppiaMente".
Here are the instructions:
Yarn: Drops Flora (50g x 210m), 2 balls
Needle: circular 40cm/16", size 3.5mm/US4 (or the size to fit the gauge)
Gauge: 18 sts in 10cm/4" in stock.st. (it looks too loose, but it's the real gauge, that is measured in double knitted stockinette).

Cast on (with the methode you prefer) 220 stitches (110 for each color).
Join and place a marker.
A is the color you are going to knit with (front side), and B is the color you are going to purl with (back side).
*Work 6 rounds. Now invert your threads and work a contrasting round: knit with B and purl with A.
Invert your threads, work next 2 rounds and then make another contrasting round.
Invert your threads, work next 2 rounds and then make another contrasting round.*
Repeat instructions ** 4 or 5 times.
Again invert threads and make 6 rounds. Now you can cast off.
Choose your favorite methode. I prefer a simple alternate cast off:
only to begin: knit1(A), purl1(B),
next: knit1(A), pass the previous knittedA over B and A, purl1(B), pass the previous purledB over A and B.
Enjoy!!!
